Located within the Costa Adeje area, El Duque is one of the newest resorts ideal for those who appreciate the finer things in life and want a quiet and relaxing holiday. The chic and exclusive bars and restaurants tend to be the main base for an evening out, for a livelier night-life the bustling Playa de las Americas is a short taxi ride away.

The beautiful sandy beach is ideal to relax and catch a few rays, and for those feeling slightly more energetic numerous water sports are also available. The resort is also a shoppers heaven, with a shopping centre filled with designer shops and boutiques.

El Duque is located approx 28 km from Reina Sofia Airport.

Hold on tight to your credit cards and welcome to the new face of Tenerife. El Duque is the place to see and be seen. We're talking chic and exclusive, from its manicured beaches to its designer shopping arcades. My hand automatically reaches up to tidy my hair every time I even pass through El Duque but I still feel like I'm making the place look untidy.

El Duque is Tenerife's answer to Barbados, complete with the price tag, and it's a million miles away from the old image of 18-30s clubbers and amusement arcades. Restaurants are stylish and very expensive so you can rest assured you're not going to bump into any riff raff at the next table as I can't afford to eat there!

When I'm lying on the sun loungers that are more comfortable than my own bed, under the shade of a straw umbrella, gazing at the azure waters lapping gently on the shore, I'm really not in Tenerife, I'm in the Caribbean.

I like the mix of nationalities that stay around El Duque and I love sitting on the terrace of La Torre del Mirador where I can watch everyone wandering past and see what 'the other half' are wearing. I find the area a bit sedate when it comes to night life though. I like Ambar Lounge Bar in the CC El Duque for an early evening cocktail but if I want to join the in-crowd for some late night partying I have to get a taxi to Liquid in Playa de las Américas.

And the must-sees? Anyone staying on the south coast really shouldn't miss Siam Park but if you're in El Duque then I guess you're no stranger to shopping and you'll find the commercial centres here nothing less than designer heaven. Just keep some credit back for the excess luggage charges. Insider Sig
