Chayofa is located in an elevated position surrounded by mountains. From here there are beautiful views of the coastal resorts and surrounding countryside.

Chayofa is a good base for exploring the island and all the surrounding areas, if it's a quiet relaxing holiday you are after then this is the place to come.

Chayfoa is home to the exclusive Regency Country Club and The Eagle Park. In the resort centre there are a few shops (mainly selling holiday essentials), few bars and a few restaurants, but Los Cristianos is nearby.

Reina Sofia Airport is approx 14 km from the resort.

Chayofa isn't a resort, it's series of housing developments in the hills above Los Cristianos favoured by retired ex-pats and timeshare owners. You'll sometimes see it referred to as a village but in my opinion that's a misleading label. The only shops are small overpriced supermarkets and the only businesses are a couple of restaurants and the two 'Country Clubs'.

I quite like the location; it's very green and considerably more lush than the coastal resorts, and the apartments and villas are very pleasantly designed and laid out to give the illusion of privacy. But it's quite a way uphill so the temperature is cooler than at the coast; great in the heat of summer but can be a disadvantage on cooler winter days.

You're a long way from the resort facilities of Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Américas, which means you either need a hire car, have to use taxis which add up to a significant cost over the course of a week or fortnight or spend a good part of your holiday standing at bus stops. On the up-side, it's really close to the Las Aguilas Jungle Park and the La Camella camel park - both in easy strolling distance.

Well worth a visit is the multi-talented Finca Del Arte; restaurant, art gallery, concert venue and art shop, this is a gem of a venue. Their summer Sunday brunch is a very laid back affair on the arty terrace amidst the greenery.

My advice? If you're looking for a quiet, semi-rural location close to the south resorts and you don't mind driving to the coast, restaurants, bars and shops, then this could be a good choice.
