Located on the South Coast of Tenerife is Costa del Silencio. This small resort is an ideal location for those looking to be near, but not in, a larger bustling area.

The resort is close to some good black sandy beaches as the resort itself doesn't feature a beach of its own. A 10 minute drive from Costa de Silencio will bring you into Playa de las Americas.

There is a lot to see and do in Costa del Silencio including lots of wildlife such as green parrots and hawks.

The Costa del Silencio resort is good for children and adults with activities that both will enjoy. There are playgrounds and parks for children to play in and for the adults who may enjoy sports there are tennis courts, squash courts and mini golf courses to play. There are a few water sports on offer which include snorkeling and diving, these however, are limited due to the rocky shores.

Due to Costa del Silencio being a small resort and only having a few shops the best thing to do would be to go to the nearest shopping centre in Playa de las Americas or Santa Cruz.

Tenerife South Airport is only a 20 minute transfer.

Tenerife Insider open quotes When I think of Costa Del Silencio I think 'housing estates in the sun' close quotes

open quotes it's worth going to Costa Del Silencio just to be near Las Galletas! close quotes

If you want sunshine, karaoke and chips on tap and aren't really bothered about character or charm, Costa Del Silencio will suit you fine. When I think of Costa Del Silencio I think 'housing estates in the sun'. For me, the place is completely devoid of charm.

There's no beach in the resort and the coastline is very rocky so swimming is confined to pools, except at the postage stamp-sized man made beach in the TenBel resort. The resort's recently had a facelift to widen its pavements and create more pleasant pedestrian areas but I still think it has a vaguely 60s air about it. Bungalows, hotels and shopping centres are all laid out in estates and I regularly get lost here because everywhere looks the same.

The good news is you don't have to go far to find some genuine Tenerife life. Stroll down the coast to the village of Las Galletas and you'll find great shopping, a wonderful chill-out bar called Vai Moana, a good sized, sheltered, sand and pebble beach and a sun-kissed marina. You'll also find some excellent seafood restaurants alongside the harbour and as this area attracts a lot of Belgian visitors, you can even get moules et frites (mussels and chips).

There's also a nice little fresh fish market on the marina most mornings where, even if you've no intention of buying any, you can watch the fish being prepared and enjoy the buzz. Come to think of it, it's worth going to Costa Del Silencio just to be near Las Galletas!

And the must-sees? If rubber’s your 'thing', Las Galletas has the best diving on Tenerife and you can wiggle your flippers around old wrecks teeming with Moray eels, rays and manta, to name but a few.
