Los Cristianos is the second largest resort on the island of Tenerife and is located in the south next to Playa de las Americas. It is a very popular resort with families due to activities available like Tenerife Zoo, the Eagle Park and the Aqua Park.

Los Cristianos has a long sandy beach with crystal clear waters. The beaches here are bursting with water sports of all kinds, from jet skiing and banana boats to windsurfing and scuba diving. There is something for everyone here.

The main focal point of Los Cristianos is the working harbour that still remains. Los Cristianos has a variety of shops, bars and restaurants to choose from, which are mainly situated on the pedestrianised promenade.

A tourist street market is held every Sunday near the Hotel Arona Gran. Los Cristianos is only a 15 minute taxi transfer from Renia Sofia Airport.

Some wicked souls refer to Los Cristianos as 'Los Crustyanos' because of the influx of more 'mature' visitors to the town during winter months, but that's a bit harsh.

I like Los Cristianos a lot; it still retains its fishing village feel. An early morning stroll along the harbour sees grizzled fishermen beside their bright fishing boats separating out all sorts of odd looking sea creatures on the quay before they start sinking early vino tintos at the little harbour kiosks.

A couple of streets back from the beach the shops are less touristy and more aimed at the local population. There are some good clothes shops here and a Carolina Boix shoe shop which is always good for a bargain. And look out for the WWII pill box which looks really out of place.

The promenade has had a facelift recently in an attempt to keep up with its upwardly mobile neighbour Las Américas with whom it shares many visitors' favourite beach, Las Vistas. Personally, I prefer the town's main beach Playa Los Cristianos. It's less manicured and there's a lot more to nosey at; the comings and goings of the busy harbour, beach volleyball, sand sculptors and petanque tournaments (okay, they're not particularly interesting). The further along you go, the more secluded it becomes. One of my favourite watering holes is Mestizo which is perfect for a day time beer or early evening cocktail and they have fantastic coffee too.

If you want good tapas, I recommend you go to the San Telmo centre which has some excellent chic tapas bars and is the resort's after dark hot spot for the non-crusty age group.

And the must-sees? The Aguilas Jungle Park up the hill at Chayofa is good fun, but it's the Monkey Park 5 minutes outside of town which the children really love. Especially as your little scamps get to feed the park's little scamps. It's not expensive either.
