Playa Paraiso is situated on the south-west of the island and is a quiet resort. It is an ideal place for a quiet relaxing holiday.

As it stands at the moment there is not a beach, but there is a salt water lido complex. The excellent beaches of Costa Adeje are just around the corner.

This resort is a new development which means there is a certain amount of building work still in process, but Costa Adeje and Playa de las Americas are just 10 minutes drive away.

The resort amenities here are basic, they do include a small amount of shops, bars and restaurants. If you are using Playa Paraiso as a base, it is advisable to hire a car so you are able to explore the island. Playa Paraiso is approximately 30-40 minutes transfer from Tenerife Sur Airport.

open quotes there's so much all inclusive here, restaurants in Playa Paraíso are thin on the ground close quotes

I don't wish to be cruel but…for a place whose name means 'Paradise Beach' there's no natural beach and it isn't exactly my idea of paradise. This is a purpose built resort which is centred around its hotels and it's a considerable distance away from the busier resorts of Costa Adeje.

Playa Paraíso has wall to wall sunshine, is pleasantly quiet and is on a good headland position with great views over to La Gomera. I'd say that if you're coming to Playa Paraíso, you're really coming to the hotel rather than the place, but if you're looking for a resort, this wouldn't be my first choice. There's a tacky, run down feel to the shops and arcades, the sort of feel Playa de las Américas had before it got its face lift, but without the nightlife and 18-30s to go with it.

Because there's so much all inclusive here, restaurants in Playa Paraíso are thin on the ground and quite a few places are for rent or sale. There's still a lot of construction in the resort too with half built hotel complexes, but you're unlikely to hear much construction noise; when I've been there of late I haven't noticed any actual building going on.

On the up side, developers have obviously noticed the irony in the resorts name and have now created the little, golden sand beach of Playa de las Galgas which has a vaguely Greek feel to it and is virtually deserted. I love it. And the swimming pool complex of Lago Paraíso at the bottom of Avenida Adeje is really nice too, I like the secluded feel to its location and it’s never too busy as most people stay around their hotel pool.

My advice? Be prepared to hire a car to get out and see some of Tenerife's beauty because you won't find it outside your hotel grounds here, despite the name.
