Located in the San Miguel de Abona area, Golf del Sur, is unsurprisingly a resort built amongst several golf courses including a 27-hole champion golf course. The resort will obviously appeal to keen golfers, but also those looking for a relaxing holiday destination.

Within the resort there is a supermarket, a few shops, pavement cafes and restaurants which offer a selection of international and local dishes. The night life centres mainly around hotel entertainment, although those who want a livelier night out, the nearby resorts of Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos are a short taxi ride away.

Golf del Sur has a small shingle beach, but the main attraction of this resort is the 27-hole golf course. It has 4 main golf courses.

Golf del Sur Avda Galvan Bello - a 27-hole golf course with ravines and wide fairways.
Golf Las Americas - an 18-hole golf course, with lakes, a driving range, golf classes and club rentals.
Golf Costa Adeje, Finca de los Olivos - 27-hole golf course with numerous lakes and gorges and a large clubhouse.
Los Palos Golf Center - a 9-hole golf course which is a short yet challenging course.

This resort is a 15 minute transfer from Tenerife South Airport.

Insider's View

Golf del Sur (or San Miguel de Abona as it's sometimes referred to and is definitely not to be confused with the town of the same name) is, it won't surprise you to know, mainly golf courses.

Whilst I accept that golf is an addiction for those who succumb to its challenges, this is a small resort and it's quite isolated. Buses around Golf del Sur are as infrequent as a hole in one so if you want to explore some of the busier resorts of the south coast, or get to a decent beach, I recommend hiring a car.

The resort lies under the main flight path so if you're the sort of person whose ears insist on being pampered, you might not find this your ideal choice. Personally, I don't find it that intrusive and after a while I don't even hear it. Mind you, I did used to live near Manchester Airport.

Golf del Sur is aimed very squarely at the British; blackboards proudly display 'roast beef' and 'burger and chips' served up with your live sports coverage. My tip is the little wine bar where they do tapas and seriously delicious desserts.

But for me, the icing on Golf del Sur's cake is that it's just a short taxi ride or coastal walk from Los Abrigos, the best place in the south for fish restaurants. If I'm feeling flush or it's a special occasion I go to Los Roques for the Rick Stein treatment but you can get just as tasty a meal in any of the other restaurants and only pay for the fish, not the name.

And the must-sees? The shiny new San Miguel Marina is the place to head to for a trip on the Yellow Submarine. It's not cheap but it's a unique experience. Insider Sig
